Nikolai Konstantinowitsch Tarasow

Nikolai Konstantinowitsch Tarasow ( Russian: Николай Константинович Тарасов ; born  October 2, 1923 in Moscow , †  September 28, 1994 in The Hague ) was a Russian lawyer and diplomat . Among other things, he worked as the Soviet Union's ambassador to the United Nations and in Mexico, and from 1985 until his death as a judge at the International Court of Justice .

Life

Nikolai Tarasov was in 1923 in Moscow and studied in his hometown of Law at the Moscow State University , where he subsequently also postgraduate further formed. From 1949 to 1953 he worked as an advisor to the legal department of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR , after which he headed the office of the Secretary of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet from 1953 to 1956. He then worked from 1956 to 1961 as an advisor in the Soviet embassy in Iran .

From 1961 he worked in the Soviet Foreign Ministry, where he was first section head and later deputy head of department and department head. In 1968 he moved to New York City as deputy permanent representative of his home country to the United Nations . From there he went to Mexico four years later , where he served as ambassador until 1976 . From 1976 to 1985 he was a senior advisor in the Foreign Policy Planning Department at the Soviet Foreign Ministry.

In 1985 he was elected judge at the International Court of Justice , succeeding his compatriot Platon Dmitrijewitsch Morozov , who had retired from this office for health reasons. After serving until February 1988, the regular end of Morosow's term of office, he was re-elected in November 1987 for a further nine-year term until February 1997. However, he died in September 1994 in The Hague, the seat of the Court of Justice. His successor was Wladlen Stepanowitsch Vereschtschetin .
