Wladlen Stepanowitsch Vereschtschetin ( Russian Владлен Степанович Верещетин ; scientific transliteration Vladlen Stepanovič Vereščetin ; born January 8, 1932 in Brjansk ) is a Russian lawyer, international lawyer and professor .

Life

Vereschtschetin graduated with honors from the Moscow Institute for International Relations in 1954 and received her doctorate in 1959 on the subject of "Legal framework under international law on the high seas (freedom of navigation, freedom of fishing)". In 1976 he completed his habilitation on the subject of international law problems of cooperation in space research . From then until receiving the title of professor in 1982 he worked as a legal expert for the space program " Interkosmos ", and from 1981 to 1995 he was at the Academy of Sciences of the USSR and from 1991 at the Russian Academy of Sciences, deputy head of the State Institute and right.

As an expert in international law was Wereschtschetin 1992-1995 Member of the International Law Commission of the United Nations . From 1984 to 1995 he was a member of the Permanent Court of Arbitration . In 1995 he was elected to succeed his compatriot Nikolai Tarasov as judge at the International Court of Justice in The Hague and held this post until 2006. He was succeeded by Leonid Skotnikow .

Vereshchetin is the author of over 150 academic publications on international law.
