biography

Born in 1970 in what is now Saint Petersburg, Starikow studied from 1987 to 1992 at the Saint Petersburg State Institute for Engineering and Economics the subject of industrial engineering in chemistry. After graduating, when Russia found itself in an economically very disadvantageous situation, the young Starikov could not find a job according to his qualifications, so he did odd jobs. From 1992 to 1994, Starikow was, for example, a newspaper seller on trains, loading and unloading wagons and a security guard in small supermarkets. In 1994 he finally found work at the “Schans” publishing house, where he initially worked as a simple clerk in the sales department and over time worked his way up to the position of department manager. In August 1998 he moved to the advertising department of the St. Petersburg branch of the radio station Jewropa Pljus .

In 2002 he stood as an independent candidate in the elections to the Regional Duma of Saint Petersburg and received 230 votes (0.95 percent of the valid votes cast).

Since 2003 Starikow has been the commercial director of the Saint Petersburg department of the Russian state television broadcaster Pervy kanal .

Starikow has been involved in writing since 2006. He is the author of 15 books on political, social and historical topics.

Starikow is married and has two daughters. He is of Russian Orthodox religion.

Political beliefs

At the end of the 1980s and the beginning of the 1990s, Starikow still described himself as a staunch liberal .

Today Starikow describes his basic political attitude as patriotic - conservative and now appears as an opponent of liberalism, whose ideological foundation, according to Starikow, differs little from that of a sect . He supports the policies of Russian President Vladimir Putin .

Starikow advocates the integration processes in the CIS up to and including the restoration of the Soviet Union within its borders in 1990.

Furthermore, he stands up for the traditional family and in this context has repeatedly expressed himself as an opponent of gay marriages .

He takes the position that Stalin played a positive role in the development of the country. Starikov believes that Stalin was poisoned by Western intelligence services in 1953.

Starikov also believes that Mikhail Gorbachev should be brought before the tribunal for treason and that activists of the punk band Pussy Riot should be deprived of their Russian citizenship and banished from the country.

In 2012 Starikov appeared as an opponent of the Russian Federation's accession to the World Trade Organization ( WTO) .

Critics accuse Starikov of a penchant for anti-globalism . In 2015, some of his books were banned in Ukraine .

Public work outside of Russia

His first book was published in German in October 2015 . This is called The Tragedy of Ukraine - A Geopolitical Diary .

Nikolai Starikow also appeared in front of a larger audience in Germany for the first time on October 17 and 18, 2015, as part of a congress of the Society for International Peace Policy eV in Bad Sooden-Allendorf .

At the beginning of June 2017 Starikow performed in Timișoara ( Romania ) and presented his first book in Romanian there.

The book "WAR. With Stranger Hands" will be published in January 2020 by the Lithuanian publisher "Baltosios Gulbes" and translated into German by Georg Farafonow.
