The Nikolaikirche is the Evangelical Lutheran village church of Spitzkunnersdorf , a district of Leutersdorf ( Görlitz district ) in Upper Lusatia . It is on the main street of Spitzkunnersdorf. The parish belongs to the Evangelical Lutheran Regional Church in Saxony .

history

As early as 1372 there was a church at this location, which had belonged to the Zittau deanery since 1350 . This first church was replaced by a second church in 1501. The present church was built from 1712 to 1716 over the aborted predecessor, and on October 18, 1716 consecrated . The tower was listed in 1724 on the site of one built in 1691. The church is the second and smallest of the churches built by Otto Ludwig von Kanitz .

In the second half of the 19th century the Nikolaikirche underwent numerous renovations and renovations. In the years 1868 and 1884 the church roof was re-covered, the roof and woodwork of the tower were renewed. During a renovation in 1890, staircases were created on both sides of the tower that lead to the galleries.

Building description

Except for the three-sided end of the choir , the Nikolaikirche corresponds exactly to the scheme of the Hainewald church . The arrangement of the pulpit and patronage box also corresponds to that in Hainewalde. The interior of the post-Gothic church is designed with a high cross vault and retracted buttresses and has a circumferential two-storey gallery . The church can accommodate 650 visitors.

Furnishing

The altar , the pulpit and the patron's box date from the time the church was built. They were repaired and painted over in 1890.

The baroque high altar is the work of the Bohemian sculptor Franz Biener (1681–1742) from Gabel . He created the figures of the risen Christ in the upper center of the altar as well as the apostle Peter and the apostle Paul on both sides.

The pulpit consists of an octagonal, floral decorated pulpit, the sound cover shows a shell occupied by angels. The pulpit is the work of the Zittau woodcarver Gottfried Jeche .

The mansion box is decorated with carvings, also by Gottfried Jeche, and shows the coats of arms of the noble families von Kanitz and von Kyaw .

The baptismal font from terracotta standing in this church since 1895, is missing since the 1960s.

organ

In 1890 the original organ gallery was removed and a large organ grandstand was built. Today's instrument has a free pipe prospectus from 1936 and has 28 stops on two manuals .

Peal

The chime consists of two chilled cast iron bells and a bronze bell. The belfry consists of a wooden structure. Below is a data overview of the bell:
