Nils Buettner

Nils Büttner (born February 9, 1967 in Bremen ) is a German art historian .

biography

Büttner studied art history , folklore and classical archeology . He received his doctorate from the Georg-August University in Göttingen with the thesis "The Invention of Landscape: Cosmography and Landscape Art in the Age of Bruegel". In 1998/99 he was a research assistant at the University of Göttingen and dealt with the cataloging of hand drawings in the art collection. In 1999 Büttner was a trainee, 2000/01 exhibition curator at the Herzog Anton Ulrich-Museum Braunschweig . 2001–2008 he worked as a research assistant at the Technical University of Dortmund. In 2004/05 he completed his habilitation at the University of Dortmund with the text “Mr. PP Rubens. On the art of becoming famous ”.

Büttner holds the chair for Middle and Modern Art History at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart . His scientific work focuses on the German and Dutch art and cultural history of the early modern period as well as the history of graphics and book illustration. He is also a member of the “Rubenianum” in Antwerp, the center for Flemish art of the 16th and 17th centuries, and co-editor of the “Corpus Rubenianum Ludwig Burchard ”, the catalog raisonné of Peter Paul Rubens .
