description

The Ningpo Deutzia is a 1 to 2.5 meter high, delicately branched shrub . The branches that carry flowers are reddish brown, 10 to 18 centimeters long, star-haired and have about six leaves. The leaves usually have a 5 to 10 millimeter long stem, in the case of leaves on branches that carry flowers, it is 1 to 2 millimeters long. The leaf blade is simple, ovate-oblong to ovate-lanceolate, 3 to 9 centimeters long and 1.5 to 3 centimeters wide, pointed or pointed long, with a rounded or broadly wedge-shaped base and a loosely serrated to smooth edge. Five or six pairs of nerves are formed. The upper side of the leaf is greenish and loosely covered with four to seven, rarely eight-pointed star hairs; the underside is greenish gray and densely covered with twelve to 15-rayed star hairs.

The inflorescences are 5 to 12 inches long, and 2.5 to 6 inches wide, multi-flowered zymous panicles . The flower stalk is 3 to 5 millimeters long. The flower cup is 3 to 4 millimeters long with a diameter of about 3 millimeters. The calyx lobes are egg-shaped or triangular, 1.5 to 2 millimeters long, 1.5 to 2 millimeters wide and densely covered with ten to 15-pointed star hairs. The petals are white or pink, oblong, 5 to 8 millimeters long and about 2.5 millimeters wide. The outer stamens are 3 to 4 millimeters long, the inner ones are shorter. The stamens are pointed and two-toothed, with the teeth standing horizontally and not reaching to the anthers. The anthers are stalked and rounded. The three or four styluses are about 6 millimeters long. The capsule fruits are hemispherical, dense star-haired and have a diameter of 4 to 5 millimeters. The Ningpo Deutzia blooms from May to July, the fruits ripen from September to October.
