life and work

Nino Malfatti was born in Innsbruck in 1940. After taking the master's examination as a painter at the Innsbruck Trade School in 1962, he studied painting and graphics with Maximilian Melcher and restoration at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna until 1965 . From 1967 to 1972 Malfatti studied with Peter Herkenrath and Gerd van Dülmen at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Karlsruhe . Malfatti became a master student of Horst Antes .

In 1974 Malfatti moved to Berlin, where he taught painting technique as a visiting professor at the Berlin University of the Arts from 1981 to 1982 .

Malfatti's early drawing work in the 1970s made everyday objects such as coat hangers, plow knives and shoe trees the subject of discussion. The serial arrangement creates a structure and a rhythm.

The mountains with extremely changing light and shadow and their spatial-atmospheric effect have been the subject of his painting since the 1980s. Malfatti has been a high mountain climber in his Tyrolean homeland for decades and photographs the mountain massifs of the Alps with the painter's eye. After these recordings, he creates his landscape paintings in his Berlin studio.

As a full member of the German Association of Artists, Nino Malfatti took part in many large annual DKB exhibitions between 1970 and 1990.
