Nipton is a municipality in San Bernardino County in the US state of California .
geography
Nipton is located in southeastern California in the southwestern United States. The Nevada border is about four kilometers east of the community. Another 55 kilometers east is the Mohave Reservoir of the Colorado River , which forms the border between Nevada and Arizona . Directly south of the community extends over 6,200 square kilometers Mojave National Preserve and approximately 100 kilometers northwest of Death Valley National Park .
The closest major city with around 560,000 inhabitants is Las Vegas in Nevada, 70 kilometers to the north .
history
Nipton was founded in 1910 as the home of local gold miners. At that time there was a motel with five rooms, a trailer park , a small supermarket and a café. Nipton recorded the highest number of sold lottery tickets in the California State Lottery for several years until a new lottery opened near Primm .
In 2010, the community presented a solar-powered generator that could cover up to 85% of the local energy supply. In August 2017, American Green Inc., one of the largest cannabis companies in the United States, announced that it would acquire Nipton completely from the previous owner and develop it into an energy self-sufficient and cannabis-friendly tourism destination.

Nipton is on Nipton Road , which continues east of the state of Nevada as Nevada State Route 164 . About 15 kilometers to the west is a connection to Interstate 15 , which runs from San Diego on the south west coast to the border with Canada in the north.

Nipton appears as a city destroyed by the autocratic Caesar's Legion in the game Fallout: New Vegas . In the Old World Blues expansion , the player receives an unknown radio signal from a satellite that crashed in a drive-in cinema near the destroyed city of Nipton.
