Nizamabad is a city in the Indian state of Telangana .

The city lies at an altitude of 393  m on the Dekkan plateau. Nizamabad is just under 150 km north of Hyderabad . The city is the administrative seat of the district of the same name and has about 310,000 inhabitants (2011 census). Nizamabad is a municipal corporation . It is divided into 50 wards and extends over an area of ​​40 square kilometers.

The name of the city is derived as follows: Nizam is the name for the governor of the Hyderabad state ; Abad means "long life". The city used to be called Indur .
