Vegetative characteristics

The Nice stonecrop is a perennial , succulent and evergreen plant that lignifies at the bottom and reaches heights of 15 to 60 centimeters. The simple, screwy, alternate, slightly fleshy and ovate-lanceolate to obscure ovate-lanceolate, seated leaves are semi-stemmed, with a pointed to prickly tip and short spurred at the base . On non-blooming shoots, the leaves are tightly roofed, in contrast to blooming shoots with distant leaves.

Generative characteristics

The flowering period lasts from May to August. The racemose inflorescence is first spherical and then concave at the time of fruiting.

The hermaphroditic, white-greenish and small, short-stalked flowers are radial symmetry with a double flower envelope . The small, bald and greenish sepals are about 2.5 millimeters long. The five to eight whitish to straw-colored, narrow petals are 4 to 7 millimeters long and blunt to round-pointed. There are some stamens and a plurality of upper permanent free punch with a conical stylus available.

Small and multi-seeded follicles are formed. The small seeds are narrow-egg-shaped.

The chromosome numbers are 2n = 32, 40, 48, 56, 60, 64, 80, 96, 128, approx. 144 and 176.

Occurrence

The distribution area includes the Mediterranean area , i.e. in Europe from Spain and France via Italy to the Balkan Peninsula . Outside Europe, Sedum sediforme is also found in the Middle East and North Africa . Sedum sediforme mostly thrives in garigues and rock corridors.
