Njivice ( German Sniewitz , direct translation Äckerchen ) is a place in western Croatia on the island of Krk with 1,170 inhabitants. It belongs to the municipality of Omišalj , which is about six kilometers north of Njivice on the coast.
Location and surroundings
The place Njivice is located in the northwest of the island of Krk. Located directly on the coast, it borders the Mediterranean Sea in the west , and towards the inland the village joins the surrounding forest landscape.
Nearby are the remains of the Roman settlement of Fulfinium and a basilica from the fifth century.
History and today's situation
The first written mention of Njivice can be found in a deed of donation from Prince Ivan Frankopan from 1474.
Back then it was still a small fishing village, but today the community is best known for its tourism. As early as 1930 the expansion into a tourist resort began with the construction of the Hotel Luka (today Jadran). The Kijac new housing estate has been part of the village itself since the 1980s.

The state road 102 (D102), which runs from the north of the island to the south and connects the larger towns of Krks such as Omišalj, Sveti Vid , Krk (town) , Punat and Baška , runs right past the municipality .
Since Njivice is in the north of the island, the bridge to the mainland and thus the city of Rijeka is not far. Rijeka International Airport (RJK) belongs to the city, but it is still on the island near Omišalj. The train station is located in Rijeka. The mainland also has access to state roads 8 and 501, which can be used to reach a large part of the country.
