Nobukazu Kuriki

Nobukazu Kuriki ( Japanese 栗 城 史 多 , Kuriki Nobukazu ; born June 9, 1982 in Imakane , Hiyama Sub-prefecture , Japan ; died May 20 or 21, 2018 near Camp 2 on Mount Everest ) was a Japanese climber .

Kuriki studied sociology at the Sapporo International University . He also started mountaineering during his studies, and in 2004 Kuriki climbed Mount McKinley single-handedly. In the following year, the Aconcagua , Elbrus and Kilimanjaro, further mountains of the Seven Summits followed in 2006 by the Carstensz pyramid . In 2007 he started solo ascents of 8000m without supplemental oxygen such as the Cho Oyu (2007), Manaslu (2008) and Dhaulagiri (2009). Since 2009 he has tried to climb Mount Everest alone every autumn without additional oxygen, and he has streamed these attempts live on the Internet, as well as his other tours. In 2012, he lost nine fingertips on an attempt at Everest . For his sixth, also unsuccessful attempt, in 2015 he was the first to receive a permit to climb it after the earthquake in Nepal in 2015 . Nobukazu Kuriki's last sign of life was received during his eighth attempt to climb Mount Everest on May 20, 2018 at 11:30 p.m. On May 21, he was found dead in his tent near Camp 2 at 7,400 meters.
