Nolana carnosa is a species of the genus Nolana inthe nightshade family (Solanaceae).

description

Nolana carnosa is a compact, perennial shrub that reaches heights of 15 to 25 cm. It grows prostrate, is densely branched and leafy, sticky and balding. The leaves are alternate, triangular and fleshy, they are 2 to 3 cm long.

The flowers are solitary, the buds are beaked. The flower stalks are 7 mm long, on the fruit they are nodding. The tubular to bell-shaped calyx is about 1 cm tall, folded and two-lipped. It is set with five irregular, awl-shaped calyx teeth. The crown is about 2.5 cm in size, funnel-shaped and colored blue to purple, or rarely white. The stamens are unevenly shaped, the stamens are slightly spread and hairy at the base . The flower base is goblet-shaped and curved. The scar is shield-shaped and bilobed.

The fruit consists of seven to eight (rarely only five) dry partial fruits, each containing two to three seeds .

Occurrence

Nolana carnosa occurs in Chile in the Región de Tarapacá and the Región de Atacama and grows there on sandy coastal plains.
