Nolina hibernica is a species of the genus Nolina in the asparagus family (Asparagaceae). English common names are "Green Beargrass Tree" and "Mountain Top Tree".

description

Nolina hibernica is tree-shaped with a height of 2 to 6 m. It sometimes forms rosettes in the upper half of the trunk. The variable, stiff, light green leaves are 50 to 120 cm long and 20 to 40 mm wide. The leaf tips are robustly fibrous and twisted.

The branched, narrow inflorescence is 1.2 to 2.5 m high. The white flowers are 2 mm long and in diameter. The flowering period extends from May to July.

Nolina hibernica is frost hardy down to −15 ° C. She is hardly known.

Distribution and systematics

Nolina hibernica is common in Mexico in the states of Tamaulipas and Nuevo León at altitudes of 2400 to 3200 m in woodland. It is associated with Agave montana , Agave gentry and Rapicactus beguinii .

Nolina hibernica is a member of the Arborescentes section . It is located in the higher mountain regions in pine forests. The long, twisted, robust fibers at the end of the leaf are characteristic.

It was first described in 2010 by Fritz Hochstätter and Davide Donati .
