Nolina nelsonii is a species of the genus Nolina in the asparagus family (Asparagaceae). English common names are "Blue Beargrass Tree", "Nelson's Beargrass" and "Tree Sacahuista".

description

Nolina nelsonii is tree-shaped with heights of 1 to 4.5 m. The variable bluish to light green, linear leaves are 50 to 70 cm long and 10 to 30 mm wide. The leaf margins are finely serrated.

The inflorescence becomes 2 to 3 m high with numerous long, variable branches. The white to tan colored flowers are 3 mm long and in diameter. The flowering period extends from May to June.

The capsule fruits, which are woody when ripe, are 8 to 10 mm long and in diameter. The light brown, spherical to elongated seeds are 2 to 3 mm in diameter.

Distribution and systematics

Nolina nelsonii is common in Mexico in the state of Tamaulipas . It is associated with Dasylirion species.
