Norbert Abels
Norbert Abels (* 1953 in Schmallenberg ) is a German dramaturge , journalist , cultural scientist and musician.
Life
Norbert Abels studied literature and musicology , philosophy and Jewish studies at the Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main . In addition to numerous cultural and historical articles and essays, he published monographs on Arthur Schnitzler , Franz Werfel and Benjamin Britten . From 1987 he worked on various stages in Europe, the USA, Israel and Japan as a dramaturgical partner for directors such as Ruth Berghaus , Calixto Bieito , Nicolas Brieger , Tankred Dorst , Adolf Dresen , Matthias and Thomas Langhoff , Christoph Marthaler , Peter Sellars , Herbert Wernicke and Robert Wilson . In 1997 he became head dramaturge at the Hessian State Theater in Wiesbaden , and since 1998 he has been chief dramaturge at the Frankfurt Opera . He teaches at the Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main (since 1981), at the schools of the German book trade (since 1983) and the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts (since 2002) and as a professor at the Folkwang University in Essen . Since 2006 Norbert Abels has been a member of the German Academy of Performing Arts .
