Life

Norbert Cohn was born on October 12, 1904 in Ingweiler (Ingwiller) in Lower Saxony. He learned to play the violin and became an entertainment musician. With two colleagues he first founded a trio in the 1920s, from which the Faconi jazz band emerged . He formed your name from the first letters of the founding members (the pianist Heinz Fa bian, the violinist Co hn and the drummer Ni kisch).

From the mid-1920s onwards, Cohns Kapelle played regularly in Berlin, mainly in the Palais am Zoo , and also made records for the companies Clausophon and Vox. When the Nazis came to power in 1933, the Faconi jazz band was on a rather unsuccessful tour that took them via Prague and Vienna to Paris. Cohn finally emigrated to the USA in the summer of 1938, where he became an American citizen. He was drafted on October 6, 1942. During the Second World War, Cohn worked as a musician in Australia, but returned to America in 1949. There he performed as a violinist in various clubs and hotels until he retired into private life around 1980. He settled in Florida, where he died in Fort Lauderdale on September 2, 1989. His granddaughter Julie Faconi remembered in 2005: My grandfather, Norbert Faconi wrote a song, once sung by Jane Morgan entitled "Once More My Love".
