Norbert Glatzel

Norbert Glatzel (* 1937 in Bad Ziegenhals , Neisse district , Upper Silesia province ) is a German Roman Catholic theologian , social ethicist, sociologist of religion and professor emeritus. Most recently, he taught as a professor of Christian social studies at the Theological Faculty of the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg .

Life

After studying philosophy and theology from 1957 to 1962 at the Philosophical-Theological University of Regensburg , Glatzel was ordained a priest in 1963. He then worked as a chaplain in Plattling until 1965. From 1965 to 1970 he studied sociology (graduated as a sociologist) at the law and political science faculty of the University of Münster . From 1970 to 1971 he worked as an assistant at the Institute for Christian Social Sciences at Kath.-Theol. Faculty of the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster and from 1971 to 1976 at the chair for Christian social studies in the Catholic Theol. Department of the University of Augsburg . In 1975 he received his doctorate in theology. From 1976 to 1989 he was professor for Christian social teaching and general sociology of religion at the Faculty of Catholic Theology at the University of Bamberg . In 1989 he moved to the theological faculty of the University of Freiburg as a professor of Christian social studies, where he taught until his retirement.

He has been a canon since 2005 and from 2013 to 2018 was the dean of the collegiate foundation “Our Lady of the Old Chapel” in Regensburg .
