Norbert Kahnt (born October 3, 1961 ) is a former German soccer player. In the 1980s he played for FC Carl Zeiss Jena and FC Rot-Weiß Erfurt in the GDR Oberliga , the top division in GDR football .

Athletic career

In 1976 Norbert Kahnt joined FC Carl Zeiss Jena, where he ran through all the youth teams until 1982. Most recently he played in the 1981/82 season as a defender in the junior league . In the meantime he had also completed his training as a precision mechanic. Towards the end of the 1981/82 season, the 1.86 m tall Kahnt made his first appearance in the GDR league. He made his debut there on the 22nd matchday in the match between FC Carl Zeiss and 1. FC Magdeburgin which he was called up as right defender in a 1-0 win. In this position he also played the remaining four season games. For the season 1982/83 Kahnt was officially included in the squad of the league team, but he was only used in a league game on the 4th day of play, in which he was substituted in only in the 62nd minute.

After the end of the first half of the season Kahnt moved to the company sports community (BSG) Motor Hermsdorf in February 1983 in the second-rate GDR league , where he played all nine games in the second half of the season as a midfielder and scored four goals. For the 1983/84 season, Kahnt joined the GDR league team Motor Weimar . There he played in midfield continuously until matchday 7 and scored two goals. In November 1983 he was drafted into the National People's Army for a year and a half . He completed this in Drögeheide , and it was made possible for him to continue playing football with the local army sports community Vorwärts, which played in the third-class district league Neubrandenburg . After he was released in May 1985, he came back in time for the promotion ceremony of BSG Motor Weimar, which was immediately returned to the GDR league after being relegated in 1984. With the beginning of the GDR league season 1985/86, Kahnt returned to his traditional position in the central midfield. Of the 34 league games, he played 25 games and scored one goal.

In these games he was praised several times in the sports press, and so the upper division club FC Rot-Weiß Erfurt, in whose sphere of influence Motor Weimar was located, noticed Kahnt and brought him into their own ranks for the 1986/87 season. With this, Kahnt returned to the top class of football after four years, and with his 20 appearances in 26 league rounds, he had no difficulty adjusting. Initially used in defense, he returned to his usual midfield role in the second half of the season. At the beginning of the season 1987/88 Kahnt had his regular place in the Oberligaelf again, but always switched between defense and midfield. After he had completed the first nine point games, he injured himself so badly on matchday 10 that he was no longer fit for the rest of the season. For the 1988/89 season, the FC Rot-Weiß Kahnt nominated for the league, but he was no longer used there.

During the 1988/89 season, Kahnt moved to the Suhl district league club Chemie Ilmenau . He helped the BSG to rise to the GDR league and was also in the squad for the 1989/90 season. By the winter break of the season, he played 16 of the 17 league games, always as a right defender. In this position he was also used in the first two second half matches. In the second game he was substituted in the 88th minute and was not called up afterwards. In the line-up for the 1990/91 season Kahnt was no longer listed, and he later no longer appeared in higher-class football. Between 1982 and 1990 he played 36 league games (no goals) and 60 GDR league games (eight goals).
