Norbert Otto Mayer (* 1957 in Dresden ) is a German politician of the Alternative for Germany (AfD).

Life

Mayer completed an apprenticeship as an electrical mechanic from 1973 to 1975 . He has been working as an independent entrepreneur in Saxony since 1990. Mayer lives in the Freital district of Wurgwitz , is married and has one child.

In 1986 he joined the Eastern CDU and remained a member of this party until 1990. He ran for the mayoral election of Freital in 2001 as a non-party candidate. He received 5.9% of the vote in the first ballot and 2.4% in the later runoff.

In 2003 Mayer became a member of the CDU , for which he was elected to the Freital City Council and the Wurgwitz Local Council in 2004. In 2014 he left the party and joined the AfD together with two other former CDU councilors, including Rudolf Polley . They founded the first parliamentary group of the AfD Saxony at local level. In the 2014 city council election he was re-elected to the city council of Freitals and again chairman of the AfD parliamentary group.

For the state elections in Saxony in 2014 , Mayer stood as a direct candidate in the constituency of Saxon Switzerland-Eastern Ore Mountains 1 and achieved 3rd place with 11.3% of the direct votes. However, he did not enter the Saxon state parliament via the state list .

After an internal dispute, Mayer was not put up as a candidate for the 2019 city council election and therefore resigned from the city council. However, he was elected to the district council of the Saxon Switzerland-Eastern Ore Mountains district and nominated again as a direct candidate for the state elections in Saxony in 2019 . On September 1, 2019, he succeeded in the state election on the list of entry as a member of the Saxon state parliament for the AfD Saxony. In his constituency he received 30.2% of the direct votes and was subject to the previous constituency member Roland Wöller .
