Results of the local elections in Freital
The results of the local elections in Freital are listed below. The first part shows the results of the Freital city council elections from 1990 onwards. The second part shows the local council election results from 1994. Local councils were elected in Wurgwitz from 1994, in Kleinnaundorf and Pesterwitz from 1999 and in Weißig from 2004. The third part of this overview contains the results of the mayoral elections since 2001.

City council elections
From 1990 to 2014, the CDU always emerged as the strongest force in the elections, but lost around 30 percentage points of the vote between 2004 and 2019, so that in 2019 the AfD was ahead for the first time. The PDS (today's Left Party) ranked behind the CDU in 1990, 1999 and 2004, and in 1994 the SPD was the second largest group in the city council. In the 2009 and 2014 elections, the “Citizens for Freital” achieved the second-best results in the elections. The voter turnout fell continuously between 1990 and 2009 from 71.8% to 48.8%, stabilized in 2014 at 49.1% and rose again to over 60% in 2019.

The first city council election after the fall of the Wall took place on May 6, 1990. With a turnout of 71.8%, the CDU won with 46.7%, followed by the PDS with 14.4% and the SPD with 12.6%. The DSU received 9.3% of the valid votes, the New Forum 5.7% and the FDP received 4.4%. 6.9% of the votes went to other associations.

The municipal council elections took place across Saxony on June 12, 1994, including in Freital. With 39.9% of the validly cast votes, the CDU again emerged as the strongest force in the city council, but lost 6.8 percentage points compared to 1990. The SPD was able to increase its election result from 1990 by 14.7 percentage points to 27.3% and became the second largest party. In third place was the PDS, which increased by 1.8 percentage points to 16.2%. The Greens, who entered for the first time, received 4.3% of the vote. The citizens' initiative Wurgwitz came to 3.3%. FDP, DSU and the New Forum had to accept losses compared to 1990.
About 1,300 fewer people were entitled to vote than in 1990. The turnout was 66.7%, 5.1 percentage points lower than four years ago. The rate of invalid ballot papers remained unchanged at 5.3%.

In the city council election on June 13, 1999, the CDU became the strongest force for the third time since 1990, compared to the last election with a clear majority. It received 45.1% of the valid votes. Behind them, the PDS ranked again as the second strongest force (18.3%) and the SPD (16.4%), which deteriorated by 10.9 percentage points. Behind the SPD came the voters' associations Bürger für Freital and Bürgerinitiative Wurgwitz, ahead of the republicans who stood for the first time (4.2%). The FDP and the Greens worsened their result in the last election and each received 2.3% of the valid votes.
Due to the incorporation of Pesterwitz, around 2000 more people were eligible to vote than in 1994. The turnout was 50.8% and thus significantly below the values of the last elections. The percentage of invalid ballot papers decreased slightly.

The 2004 city council election in Saxony took place again on June 13th. Increase the CDU again, it united over half of the votes cast and thus reached 53.8%. The PDS and SPD, which landed in second and third place, both lost around 5 percentage points and thus achieved 14% and 11.6% of the vote, respectively. The citizens for Freital also made losses, they came to 8.1%. Behind them were the Republicans (6.7%), the Greens (3.3%) and the FDP (2.4%).
About the same number of people were entitled to vote as in 1999. Nevertheless, the turnout fell again to 48.8%. The number of invalid votes fell slightly again.

The city council election on June 7, 2009 brought the Freital CDU a vote loss of around 12 percentage points. Nevertheless, it was again the strongest force, ahead of the “Citizens for Freital”, who got 16% of the vote. Behind the Left Party (formerly PDS) and SPD with minor losses compared to 2004. The FDP was able to increase its result by about 6 percentage points and got 8.5% of the valid votes. Behind were the NPD, who appeared for the first time, with 5.6% and the Greens with 4.2%.
Of the 32,883 eligible voters, 45.6% took part in the city council election, which is another 2 percentage points less than in 2004. The percentage of invalid ballot papers continued to decline and in 2009 was only 2.9%.

The sixth municipal elections after 1990 took place in Freital on May 25, 2014. The CDU again had to cope with a sharp decline in voters of around 10% p (2009: −12% p), but with 31.9% of the votes cast it was still the strongest force in the new city council. The citizens for Freital were able to increase by a further eight percentage points and came to 22.9%. The Left Party lost a percentage point, the SPD gained slightly. Both parties got over ten percent of the vote. The AfD, which appeared for the first time, was able to achieve 9.6%. However, through the formation of its own parliamentary group by four former CDU members, it was already represented in the city council before the election. The Greens roughly achieved their 2009 result, the FDP only achieved half of the previous result and, together with the NPD, achieved a share of four percent of the valid votes.
The turnout of 49.1% was the highest it has been since 1999. Around 32,800 people were again entitled to vote. At 2.2%, the proportion of invalid votes was lower than ever since 1990.

In the city council elections held on May 26, 2019, the CDU did not become the strongest force for the first time since 1990. It was replaced by the AfD, which, when it took part in the Freital city council elections for the second time, achieved 25.9% of the votes and thus an increase of 16.3% p, while the CDU lost 8.6% p and with 23.3% its worst Earnings at all since 1990. In third place with 13.3% came the Freital voters who split off from the citizens for Freital in the previous election period. With the result of the citizens for Freital (9%), both electoral associations together come to about the value of 2014. Left, SPD and NPD also suffered losses, while Greens and FDP were able to increase their share of the vote.
With a turnout of 61.2%, the 2014 election mark was clearly exceeded; it is the highest turnout since 1994. Around 32,500 people were eligible to vote.
Local council elections
Kleinnaundorf
The first local council elections in Kleinnaundorf took place on June 13, 1999. The Free Citizens of Kleinnaundorf achieved 61.8% of the vote and thus 5 seats in the local council. The CDU, which also appeared, received 38.2% and thus got 3 mandates. The turnout was 54.4%.
The second Kleinnaundorf local council election on June 13, 2004 brought all 8 seats for the free citizens of Kleinnaundorf, as they received 99.9% of the votes. A self-applicant who also competed received only one vote and thus 0.1% of the total votes. The turnout was 50.7%.
On June 7, 2009 the third Kleinnaundorfer local council was elected. After the election, the Free Citizens of Kleinnaundorf held all 8 seats again. They received 89.7% of the vote and thus prevailed against the FDP (10.3%). The turnout rose to 53.9%.
The fourth Kleinnaundorfer local council was determined in the election on May 25, 2014. Once again, all seats went to the Free Citizens of Kleinnaundorf, who received 90.4% of the votes cast. The SPD was also there. It came to 9.6%, which was not enough for a seat on the local council. 60.2% of the people from Kleinnaundorf went to vote, a further increase compared to 2009.
In the election for the Kleinnaundorfer local council on May 26, 2019, the Free Citizens of Kleinnaundorf again received almost all votes cast and all seats on the local council. There were another five self-applicants who all received less than five votes and together achieved one percent of the votes. The voter turnout was 73.6%, higher than ever.

Pesterwitz
In Pesterwitz, the local council election took place on June 13, 1999. The citizens' initiative Pesterwitz was the only nominee for election and thus received all mandates with a voter turnout of 70.2%.
In the second local council election on June 13, 2004, the citizens' initiative received 99.5% of the total votes, the remaining 0.5% were split between several individual applicants. The turnout fell to 64.7%.
In Pesterwitz, the citizens' initiative was again the strongest force on June 7, 2009 and received 81.3% of the votes, thus 9 seats. One mandate went to the SPD, which received 11% of the vote. The FDP achieved 7.7% in this election. The turnout fell again, to 62.4%.
In the run-up to the local elections on May 25, 2014, a new voter association was formed with the Bündnis für Pesterwitz . This reached 44.6% (5 seats) in the election, the Pesterwitz citizens' initiative only 42.9% (4 seats) and the list of the SPD 12.5% (1 seat). The turnout was 66.7%.
The alliance for Pesterwitz, which formed for the first time in the 2014 election, won all seats in the Pesterwitz local council on May 26, 2019 with 99.5%. The citizens' initiative Pesterwitz and the SPD, which each had a seat on the council during the electoral term that was ending, had not run. Half a percent was distributed among other applicants. The voter turnout reached 76.1%, a similarly high value as in the other towns.

Whitish
In Weißig, a local council was elected for the first time on June 13, 2004. With a voter turnout of 56.9%, the voter association Ortschaftsrat Weißig received 99.8% of the votes and all six seats. There were two self-applicants who only got one vote but still got a seat.
The second Weißig local council was composed as follows after June 7, 2009: The local council voter association Weißig received 60.2% of the votes and thus 5 seats in the local council. Pro Weißig received 29.4% of the votes, which corresponded to two mandates. One seat went to the FDP, which received 10.4% of the total vote. The turnout of 58.8% was slightly higher than in 2004.
In the local council election on May 25, 2014, only the local council voter association Weißig ran. However, your nomination included only seven people, which is why the eighth seat was assigned to an additional registered person. The turnout was 59.4%.
On May 26, 2019, the voter association for the local council of Weißig won all eight seats on the local council for the first time. It was able to unite 99.8% of the valid votes with a turnout of 72.2%. Two self-applicants, who each received one vote, came together to 0.2%.

Wurgwitz
The first local council elections took place in the local elections on June 12, 1994. The local council of Wurgwitz was elected in Freital. Here the citizens' initiative Wurgwitz received all 8 mandates, as they received 99% of the votes. One self-applicant received 1% of the vote. 68.7% of those eligible to vote went to the polls.
In the second local council election on June 13, 1999, the citizens' initiative received 71% of the valid votes and thus 6 seats. The CDU, which appeared for the first time, achieved 29% and received two mandates. The turnout was 53.5%, well below the value of the first local council election.
On June 13, 2004, the third Wurgwitz local council was elected. The citizens' initiative Wurgwitz received 79.2% of the votes, 7 mandates and was thus able to increase compared to the last election. The CDU received 20.8% of the total vote and thus one seat. The turnout was 51.4%.
With 89.8% of the votes, the citizens' initiative Wurgwitz emerged as the clear winner of the election on June 7, 2009. She received all 8 seats in the local council. The FDP (5.9%) and the SPD (4.3%) also ran. Of 2,061 eligible voters, 49.3% went to vote.
In Wurgwitz, the citizens' initiative prevailed in the election on May 25, 2014 with 91% against the SPD, which received 9% of the vote. The citizens' initiative will have all eight seats on the local council for another five years. The turnout of 53% was slightly higher than in 2009.
On May 26, 2019, in the subsequent election, the BIW achieved all seats in the council for the third time in a row, with its best result. Half a percent of the votes went to other applicants. The turnout was 68.7%, the lowest in comparison to the elections in the other towns, but significantly higher than in 2014.

The results of the elections for mayor or mayor of the city of Freital since 2001 are presented below.
2001
The Mayor Klaus Pollack (SPD), who had been in office since 1994 , did not run. After the first election on June 10, 2001, a runoff election on June 24, 2001 was necessary because initially no candidate could achieve the required simple majority.

There were three applicants for election on June 8, 2008. The incumbent Mayor Klaus Mättig emerged from the vote as the clear winner. Around half of all eligible voters took part, more than in the two votes in 2001.

Mayor Klaus Mättig was unable to stand for election on June 7, 2015 due to the age restriction . Six candidates applied for his successor. On June 7, 2015, Uwe Rumberg achieved just under an absolute majority in the first ballot.
