Norbert Schäffer

Norbert Schäffer (born November 22, 1964 in Sulzbach-Rosenberg ) is a German biologist who specializes in animal ecology and has been chairman of the State Association for Bird Protection in Bavaria (LBV) since October 2014

Career

Norbert Schäffer grew up in Sulzbach-Rosenberg and was active during school and study in the nature conservation youth, the youth organization of the state association for bird protection in Bavaria. After graduating from high school in 1984, he studied biology at the University of Regensburg from 1985 . He finished his studies in 1991 at the University of Bayreuth with the diploma thesis " The meaning of dead wood after wind throws for the bottom fauna using the example of the carabids ".

As a graduate student, he conducted research in northeastern Poland and in 1997 his work " habitat selection and partnership system Tüpfelralle Porzana porzana and corncrake Crex crex ", which he at the Max Planck Institute for Ornithology and the bird Radolfzell anfertigte, Dr. rer. nat doctorate. Since 1996 he has been with the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) in Great Britain. In October 2014 he succeeded Ludwig Sothmann and became the first full-time chairman of the State Association for Bird Protection in Bavaria.

Schäffer has been editor-in-chief of the specialist magazine Der Falke , journal for bird watchers www.falke-journal.de , since 2008 .
