Norbert Anton Stigler

Norbert Anton Stigler OCist (born May 13, 1942 in Baden near Vienna ; † July 30, 2020 in the Sesto Dolomites ) was an Austrian religious priest of the Cistercian monastery Heiligenkreuz , pastor and university professor .

Life

He grew up in Pfaffstätten . On June 22, 1960, he graduated from high school in Baden (Biondekgasse) and initially studied technical physics at the Vienna University of Technology from 1960–1962 . On August 14, 1962, he joined the Heiligenkreuz Abbey and was ordained a priest on June 2, 1968 . In Wiener Neustadt he was chaplain from 1968 to 1973 . On 14 December 1972 he was at the University of Vienna with a thesis on Wilhelm Anton Neumann doctorate . At the grammar school in Baden (Biondekgasse) he taught the Catholic religion from 1973 to 1982. From 1974 to 1981 he was the pastor of the students in Baden. In Alland was a pastor from 1981 to 1999. From 1999 until his death he was pastor in Sulz in the Vienna Woods .

Since 1982 he has been on the management team of Marriage Encounter Austria. From the summer semester of 1984 he took over the professorship for pastoral theology at the University of Heiligenkreuz , where he was dean from 1989 to 1991 and from 1993 to 1999 .

He was an experienced alpinist and since 1969 a state-certified instructor for alpine skiing on the Arlberg . He died as a result of a 70 meter fall in the Sesto Dolomites . On August 13, 2020, he will be buried at the Mönchsfriedhof in Heiligenkreuz.
