The Nordica is a Finnish multipurpose icebreakers the Fennica class. In addition to being used as an icebreaker, the ship is also used as an offshore multi-purpose ship to supply offshore facilities. The sister ship is called Fennica .
history
The ship with the hull number 402 was built at the Finnish shipyard Finnyards . The keel was laid on January 25, the launch on June 18, 1993. The ship was completed on January 1, 1994. The Nordica sails under the flag of Finland . Home port is Helsinki .
Technology and equipment
The 116 m long Nordica has a diesel-electric drive with a maximum drive power of the electric motors, which drive the ship via two propeller nacelles with fixed propellers, of 15,000 kW . This enables the ship to reach a maximum speed of 16.50 kn . The power for the drive motors is generated by four Wärtsilä diesel motors. Two of them have 6,000 kW each, the other two over 4,500 kW. The ship has three bow thrusters with controllable pitch propellers .
The ship can be equipped with a helideck in front of the superstructure. Behind the superstructure there is an approximately 1,100 m² open working deck. This can be loaded with up to 10 t / m². On the starboard side there is a working crane with two hoists. The capacity of the main elevator is 160 t with a 9 m delivery and another 30 t with a 32 m delivery. The second hoist can lift 80 t with a 9 m display or 32 t with a 32 m display. A second crane with a lifting capacity of 5 t and a 15 m extension can be retrofitted if necessary. The ship can also be equipped with a stern boom which can lift up to 120 t.
