North Russian lowlands
The North Russian Lowland is located in the far north of the European part of Russia and is part of the Eastern European Plain .
The lowland to the west and east of the Timan Ridge extends around the Northern Dvina , Onega and Mesen rivers in the west and Pechora in the east. In the north joins the Barents Sea (with the island Kolgujew in it ) and thus the Arctic Ocean . In the middle, the Timan Ridge, running in a slightly north-west-south-east direction, divides the North Russian lowlands into two parts. In the northeast the lowland borders on the Pai-Choi Mountains , in the east on the Ural Mountains and in the south on the North Russian Ridge . In the west, it gradually goes over Lake Onega and Ladoga into the Finnish Lake District .
The landscape of the extremely thinly populated North Russian lowlands is determined by the taiga and tundra as well as the rivers and large lakes just mentioned. The biggest cities are Arkhangelsk and Severodvinsk .
