Norvaline is a non-proteinogenic α- amino acid . Structurally, passes L -Norvalin by substitution of the α-hydrogen atom by an amino group (-NH 2 ) of the valeric acid from. L - valine and L - isovaline are constitutional isomers of L- norvaline.

By decarboxylation of norvaline produced n -butylamine . Its common name Norvalamin indicates this reaction.

application

L- norvaline inhibits the enzyme arginase so that the arginine concentration increases. Norvaline can be incorporated into proteins instead of L- leucine.
