Notholirion macrophyllum is a species in the genus Notholirion from the lily family.

description

The plants only reach heights of 20 to 35 cm, making it the smallest species in the genus. A native leaf rosette with outstretched leaves (30 to 40 long and about 2 cm wide) is first formed. From this the plant sprouts a grape-shaped inflorescence in June to August, there are 2 to 4 (up to 6) flowers . It has pale purple to purple or red, bell-shaped, hermaphrodite, flowers, with dark purple spots in the throat, they are about 5 cm tall. The bloom cladding sheets are shaped the same ( tepals ) (2.5 to 5 × 0.6 to 1.5 cm). There are fruit capsules formed. The flowering time is in August. The fruit ripens in the same year, after which the plant dies. Before the old plant dies, a lot of small bulbs are formed.

distribution

The species is native to the Chinese provinces : Sichuan , Xizang , Yunnan ; Bhutan , Nepal and Sikkim in oak forests, on grassy slopes and meadows at altitudes of 2800 to 3400 m above sea level.
