Notre-Dame (Saint-Clair-sur-Epte)
The Catholic Church Notre-Dame in Saint-Clair-sur-Epte , a parish in the Val-d'Oise department in the French region of Île-de-France , dates back to the 11th century. Since 1938, the church has been on the list of architectural monuments in France as Monument historique .
History and description
The church consecrated to Our Lady goes back to the church of a Benedictine priory . Parts of the north aisle and the choir are still preserved from this Romanesque building from the 11th century . Since the church has relics of St. Clair du Beauvaisis , the church is also known as St. Clair . Since the Middle Ages found pilgrimages in honor of the Holy place.
The church was extended in the 15th century by a south aisle, which was made in the flamboyant style.
During excavations in the 20th century, Merovingian sarcophagi were found in the church.
