Notre-Dame la Brune (Aleyrac)
The former priory church of Notre-Dame la Brune in Aleyrac , a French commune in the Drôme department in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region , was built in the 12th century. The ruins have been protected as a monument ( Monument historique ) since 1905 .
history
The Notre-Dame priory was first mentioned in a document in 1105. It was under the Abbey of Saint-Pierre-les-Nonnains in Lyon . In 1295 13 people lived in the monastery and during the Hundred Years War , around 1380, the nuns fled to Valréas and the buildings of the priory were burned down. In 1437 the priory was finally dissolved and its properties handed over to the collegiate monastery of Sainte-Croix in Montélimar , which in 1528 sold the Seigneurie Aleyrac to the Lords of Grignan . The church was used as the parish church of Aleyrac until the 19th century and then fell into disrepair.
architecture
The church, which stands on a slope, was built on the site of a spring described as miraculous. The source can be reached through the southern exit, where it is located directly below the western nave.
The apse , which is octagonal both inside and outside , is covered by a slightly broken barrel vault. The west facade has three windows and a round arched portal . A bell gable with two arcades sits on the roof .
