The rose variety 'Novalis' (Syn .:' Poseidon ',' KORfriedhar ') is a lavender-blue, frequently blooming floribunda rose that was bred by Tim-Hermann Kordes and launched in 2010 by W. Kordes' sons . As a so-called nostalgic Floribunda rose, 'Novalis' belongs to the "fairy tale collection" of W. Kordes' Sons Rosenschulen GmbH & Co KG. The rose was created by crossing two unnamed, unpatented seedlings. In 2013 the rose variety 'Novalis' was awarded an ADR rose .

education

The bushy, upright growing rose 'Novalis' forms a narrow, strong, medium-sized shrub. The rose plant becomes 70 to 80 centimeters high and 30 to 40 centimeters wide.

The flowers, made up of 70 to 75 slightly notched petals , arranged individually or in small clusters, form a bowl-shaped, densely filled flower. A light lavender floribundum flower slowly opens from an elongated, egg-shaped, dark pink flower bud. After two to three days, the cup-shaped, densely filled flower develops.

The flower color changes depending on the flower age between dark pink, lavender to purple and later gradually fades without the flowers losing their shape and petals. The flowers are 5 to 10 cm in size. The bloom, which is sometimes prone to rain, is characterized by a long blooming period of over 10 days. The flowers are characterized by a long-lasting, fruity fragrance. The rose has medium to dark green, robust, exceptionally healthy, shiny leaves.

The remontant rose is hardy ( USDA climate zone 6b and warmer) and prefers sunny to partially shaded, well-ventilated locations. It blooms continuously from June to late autumn and is resistant to the well-known rose diseases such as star soot or powdery mildew .

The rose is particularly effective as a group planting in flower beds and cottage gardens . The 'Novalis' rose is also suitable for growing as a high stem .

The rose cultivar 'Novalis' is due to their unusual color in numerous Rosarien and gardens of the world, including in Europe Rosarium Sangerhausen, in German Rosarium Dortmund , in Rosarium Luttum shown and Huntington Park Rose Garden.

Naming

The rose variety 'Novalis' was named in collaboration with the Novalis Museum in Oberwiederstedt Castle in honor of the early romantic poet Friedrich Freiherr von Hardenberg , known as Novalis . The unusual flower color symbolizes an allusion to the central symbol of romance, the blue flower , which stands for love and longing and ultimately for the pursuit of the infinite.

Awards

The 'Novalis' rose variety has won domestic and foreign awards, including a. In 2013 with the Recognized German Rose (ADR) award , in 2014 with the Premier Prix Grand Prix de la Rose in France or in 2015 with the silver medal at the La Tacita International Trials for New Roses in Italy.
