Novempopulana

Novempopulana

Novempopulana ( Latin for "land of the nine peoples") was one of the provinces formed by Emperor Diocletian and was also called Aquitania Tertia as part of the former province of Gallia Aquitania . The province formed the extreme southwest of Gaul and stretched between the Garonne and the Pyrenees . Neighboring provinces were Aquitania secunda in the north, Gallia Narbonensis in the east and Hispania Tarraconensis in the south.

After the end of the Roman Empire, the province of Novempopulana became part of Gascony .
