Nuala O'Faolain

Nuala O'Faolain (born March 1, 1940 in Dublin , † May 9, 2008 in Dublin ) was an Irish journalist and writer .

Life

O'Faolain was born in Dublin to an Irish journalist. She studied in Dublin, Hull and Oxford and initially worked as a university lecturer and television producer before becoming a renowned columnist for the Irish Times .

She later lived alternately in Ireland and Brooklyn , New York. In the first of her two autobiographies , Are You Somebody? The Accidental Memoir of a Dublin Woman , she had her 1996 coming-out and reported on their long-standing relationship with the journalist Nell McCafferty . When O'Faolain fell ill with cancer, she initially turned down chemotherapy and decided to travel. She died in Dublin in May 2008.

In Germany she became known as her book An old dream of love in the show Read! was presented by Elke Heidenreich .
