The film shows in fast motion the development of a chicken from the sperm in egg yolk on the development of the embryo over a period of 21 days by the baby chicks. The development is accompanied by Ludwig van Beethoven's overture from Egmont .
The film manages without language.
reception
It won the Palme d'Or for Best Short Film at the Cannes International Film Festival in 1965 and was nominated for Best Documentary Short Film at the 1966 Academy Awards.
