history

The company's history began in 1982 with the establishment of the Oman Refinery Company (ORC) as the first oil refinery in Oman . This had an initial capacity of around 50,000 barrels per day. In 1996, the Oman Oil Company (OOC) was founded as a wholly-owned company of the government of Oman. From this the Oman Gas Company (OGC) developed in 2000 and finally the Oman Oil Marketing Company (OOMCO) in 2003 . The governments of Oman and India founded the Oman India Fertilizer Company (OMIFCO) on their own initiative in 2005 in order to expand the production capacities of ammonia and urea as well as their derivatives for fertilizer production in Oman . In the same year, the subsidiary Sohar Aluminum Company (SAC) was also founded as the first production facility for aluminum in Oman. In 2006 the Oman Trading Internation (OTI) was founded as a further subsidiary , which was primarily responsible for the international trade and sales of products from the gas , mineral oil and petrochemical production . Just one year later, in 2007, the Oman Refinery Company merged with the Suhar Refinery Company to form Oman Refineries and Petrochemicals Co. In 2009, the Oman Oil Company Exploration & Production (OOCEP) was founded. The Oman Oil Company took over the Salalah Methanol Company LLC in 2010 and operated a state-of-the-art methanol production facility in Salala, Oman, and acquired 30% of Vale Oman , one of the world's largest mining companies in the iron ore , nickel and pellet production . In the same year, the aromatics plant of Oman Oil was completed, which led to the integration of the Oman Refineries & Petrochemicals Company, the Oman Polypropylene Company and the Aromatics Oman Ltd. led. In 2011 the companies merged to form Oman Oil Refineries and Petroleum Industries Company (ORPIC). This was taken over by the German Oxea GmbH in 2013 . Further investment projects followed in 2015, 2017 and 2018 , from which the OQ Company was finally formed in 2019.
