history

The company's history began in 2007 with the sale of Celanese and European Oxo (EOXO) , a joint venture between Celanese and Degussa , to the private investor Advent International . This led to the development of the new company with the company name OXEA GmbH , which now took ownership of the Ruhrchemie plant ( Oberhausen , Germany ) and Bay City ( Texas , United States ). In the years that followed, numerous investments in new plant projects and the realignment of some production areas by selling certain production plants to other companies followed. In 2013, Advent International sold OXEA GmbH to Oman Oil Company (OOC) , an Omani gas and mineral oil company based in Muscat .

At the end of 2019, following numerous investment projects by the Oman Oil Company and the Oman Oil Refineries and Petroleum Industries Company (ORPIC Group) , the new brand identity OQ was founded through the merger of nine sub-companies and subsidiaries . OXEA GmbH, which was fully acquired by the Oman Oil Company, was integrated into the newly founded energy company OQ in May 2020 and the company name was officially renamed OQ Chemicals GmbH .

Products

OQ Chemicals GmbH is a major manufacturer of more than 70 oxo intermediates and oxo derivatives , the basic manufacturing process of which goes back to the research work of the German chemist Otto Roelen . Oxo synthesis or hydroformylation refers to the conversion of petrochemical starting materials - above all ethene and propene - with a gas mixture of carbon monoxide and hydrogen (often also referred to as synthesis gas ) in order to produce aldehydes , which through further technical processes into highly refined intermediate products and specialty chemicals can be transferred. The product portfolio of OQ Chemicals ranges from alcohols , polyols , carboxylic acids and carboxylic acid esters to amines . These organic intermediate products are mainly used for the production of high-quality coatings , lubricants , cosmetic and pharmaceutical products , aromas and fragrances , printing inks and plastics .
