Romeo and Juliet Get Married ( 2005 ) is a romantic comedy by the Brazilian director Bruno Barreto .
action
All members of the originally Sicilian Baragatti family are fanatical supporters of the São Paulo city club , Palmeiras . During a game against city rivals Corinthians ( Derby Paulista ), Baragatti's 25-year-old daughter Julieta discovers a hot-blooded Corinthians fan. She immediately casts an eye on him, but has not yet had a chance to speak to him.
When she, an active soccer player , loses her team , she gets a spark in the eye in the ensuing family quarrel. It turns out that her ophthalmologist is the same Corinthians fan she saw at the game. She makes an appointment with him. In the course of the film, more and more confusion is added, as the 40-year-old widower Romeu has to pretend to be a Palmeiras fan in order to have a chance with Alfredo Baragatti, Julieta's father. At the same time, he is despised by his grandmother Nenzica and his son Zilinho for betraying the Corinthians.
background
The film is a free adaptation of Shakespear's work Romeo and Juliet . This can be seen very nicely in the modification of the famous balcony scene and in the credits, where the last words of the great tragedy are quoted verbatim.
