Obcina Mare

The Obcina Mare is a mountain range in northeast Romania . It is located in the Suceava district in the historical Bucovina region and is part of the Outer Eastern Carpathians .
Surname
"Obcina" comes from Slavic and means "community" or "pasture community", while "Mare" comes from Romanian and means "large".
Demarcation
The mountains are limited
- to the north by the Suceava river ,
- in the east of the Bukovina highlands ( Podișul Sucevei ),
- in the south of the Moldova river ,
- to the west by the Moldovița river .
Adjacent Mountains are the Munţii Stânişoarei in the south, Obcina Feredeului in the West and in the Ukraine located Pokuts'ko-Bukovins'ki Karpaty in the north.

The main ridge of the mountains runs in a north-west-south-east direction. The highest point is the 1223 m high Vârful Scoruşet . Geologically, the Obcina Mare is shaped by flysch . It is mostly forested, with spruce trees dominating.
population
The Bukowina and the Obcina Mare have traditionally been settled by members of different peoples for several hundred years. The largest proportion of the population were and still are the Romanians . Until the outbreak of the Second World War, some villages were inhabited purely or predominantly by Germans (see Bukowina Germans ) . While Germans and the Jews, who were also numerous in the past, are hardly to be found, a large number of Poles and Ukrainians still live in the Obcina Mare region, and more rarely Russians , Hungarians and Slovaks .
economy
The Obcina Mare is characterized by forestry and animal husbandry. There are also industrial plants in the towns on the edge of the mountains. Tourism is playing an increasing role, especially in the area around the Moldavian monasteries .
traffic
The main railway line Dărmăneşti – Câmpulung Moldovenesc runs along the southern edge of the mountains . The railway lines Suceava – Putna in the north and Vama - Molodvița in the west connect to this route .
Only an asphalt road ( Rădăuți - Vatra Moldoviței ) leads through the Obcina Mare ; all other paths are unpaved. In contrast, the surrounding villages are easily accessible.
