Before 1885 the Villa Sonneck ( house address Boettingerweg 4 ) was built in the local area by the client Adolf Haarhaus , which was acquired by Henry Theodore Böttinger in September 1890 and used as a summer apartment. The two villas were connected by an extensive park. After Boettinger's death, the city of Wuppertal acquired the property for potential expansion of the zoo grounds.

The area of the former Villa Boettinger is now part of the zoo and is built over with the new elephant house, which opened in 1995, only the former small porter's house of Villa Boettinger still exists within the grounds of the zoo.
Country inn "Zum alten Kuhstall"
The historic half-timbered house of the country inn "Zum alten Kuhstall" was built by the Schön family in 1772. Even then it is said to have served as a restaurant for merchants and coachmen. 1882, the House of Fritz Schön was in the course of the opening of the zoo and the development of Zooviertels in Wilhelmine style developed. The restoration building has been changed several times over the years, but is still operated as an inn today. Major renovations and extensions took place in the 1950s and 1970s, when the middle part of the building was torn down and rebuilt in the old style. With the change of a new tenant, the house was renovated from August to November 2011. This new tenant ran the restaurant from November 2011 to June 2014.
