The Oberaletschhütte (also plural Oberaletschhütten ) is a mountain hut in the Bernese Alps . It lies at an altitude of 2640  m above sea level. M. on the west ridge of the Gross Fusshorn , above the Oberaletsch Glacier in the Jungfrau-Aletsch-Bietschhorn region, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site .

history

The first hut was built in 1890 at an altitude of 2600  m by the Chasseral section of the SAC and offered 14 beds. The indicated altitude was 2670  m until 1931 and was corrected to 2609  m in 1933 . In 1925, the Bernoud Hut , which had been built on Torberg the year before, was destroyed by an avalanche. In 1928 a second, larger stone hut was built 40 meters above the old Oberaletsch hut. This Alex. Bernoud Hut (Neue Oberaletsch Hut) was enlarged in 1969, but just two years later this new building was destroyed by fire. The hut, built in 1973 as a replacement, is still standing today and offers guests 58 beds during the waiting period. Twelve more beds, which are also accessible in winter, are located in the old hut, built in 1890, which is equipped with a wood stove.

Approaches

The shortest approach takes four to five hours from the Belalp mountain station, initially on a wide path to the Hotel Belalp. Then descend via the “Steigglen” and take the old path via point 2053 along the slope to the southern, old moraine of the Oberaletsch glacier. Now down through the gorge of the glacier stream, over the bridge and up to the old, northern lateral moraine. On this up to its end and further up to approx. 2600  m . From there it is still a good hour on the Panoramaweg, which was built in 2005 and always runs at the same height.

Alternatively, the hut can be reached in around five to eight hours from Riederalp . From there over the Riederfurka down to the suspension bridge opened in 2008 over the glacier stream of the Aletsch Glacier . On the Aletschji side , a newly marked connecting path leads to the Belalp ascent path.

Tour possibilities

The most frequently undertaken high-altitude tour from the Oberaletschhütte is the ascent of the Aletschhorn ( 4193  m ) via the southwest rib ( ZS ). This tour should take six to ten hours. Other tour options are the Nesthorn ( 3822  m ), Sattelhorn ( 3745  m ), Gross Fusshorn ( 3627  m ), Schinhorn ( 3797  m ) or Geishorn ( 3740  m ).
