The Hohe Bach and the Meierbach flow in a north-east-south-west direction through the municipality. Both flow into the Meiße southeast of Hodenhagen . The Meierbach feeds the small Meiersee in the north of the area. The Schafmoorsee is located in the north of the Ostenholz Moor, also in the former municipal area.

History

The collective name " Oberhode " did not appear until 1500. In a document from 1563 we find the designation " Up der Hoe " (Auf der Hohe), 1628: " Baurschaft über der Hohe " (" Hohe " can also be found in the Hohen Bach). In the Lüneburg feudal register from 1360 there is the first mention of the old market cooperative : “ up me dure ” (on the Dür), to which Oberhode, Ostenholz and probably also a Hof von Westenholz belonged.

Since Oberhode did not have its own school building, the children had to go to school in Ostenholz. In 1748, the owners of Stelterhof and Narjesbergen submitted a request for their own schoolmaster for the first time. In 1776 another application was submitted, on the grounds that some of the children had a one- mile way to school (one mile was about 7.4 km) to Ostenholz. But further efforts of 1797, 1835 and 1851 were all unsuccessful. In May 1891 a school house was built on the property of the Stelterhof. The school was inaugurated on October 19, 1891. Heinrich Karl Plate was the first teacher. He initially taught 59 school children. On average, he had 70 children to teach in the one-class school. On April 1, 1930, a second teaching position was set up due to the increasing number of students.

In the course of the establishment of the Bergen military training area , the resettlement of the population and the clearing of the part of the municipality that was required for the training area took place from summer 1935 to May 1936. The farm owners were compensated, most of the buildings on the practice area were demolished. (See Heidmark # Destruction of Ostheidmark in the time of National Socialism ) The total size of the municipality of Oberhode was 3936 hectares , of which 2736 hectares fell into the military training area. A doppeltreppiger memory of Hohenbrelingen was implemented in 1937/38 and is now on the " courtyard of the Heidmark " in Bad Fallingbostel .
