Westenholz is a district of the city of Walsrode in the Lower Saxony district of Heidekreis . About 250 people live in the heath village on an area of 19.7 km².

Westenholz is the southernmost district; it is located in the southeastern area of the city of Walsrode, 21 km southeast of the core town of Walsrode.
Neighboring communities - clockwise from the north - are Fahrenholz , Ostenholz and Krelingen .
history
The first mention of Westenholz is in 1237. Document No. 32 of the Hodenberg document book states that a Hermann Hode (see: Hodenberg # origin ), Vogt zu Bücken , prescribes his goods in Westenholz (Westerholt) to the Walsrode monastery for security. In 1296 a further entry is made in document 105 of the same document book. In 1360, document 152 of the Hodenberg document book: Duke Wilhelm II of Braunschweig-Lüneburg enfeoffed Heinrich von Hodenberg, among other things, with a " hof to westenholte ". 1445: Duke Friedrich von Braunschweig-Lüneburg enfeoffs Marquard von Hodenberg among other things with “ Twe houe to Westenholte ” (Certificate 201 Hodenberger Urkundenbuch).
Since the regional reform , which came into effect on March 1, 1974, the previously independent municipality of Westenholz has been one of 23 localities in the city of Walsrode.

Culture and sights
- About three kilometers southwest of Westenholz, between extensive forest areas, the Westenholzer Bruch, there is a small hunting lodge. Hermann Löns stayed in the hut frequently between 1898 and 1914.
- There are also several trees in the center of the village and in its immediate vicinity (one oak , two red beeches and one holly palm ) that are protected as natural monuments .
- A memorial stone that reminds of parrot shooting on a parrot tree (Low German Papengeyenbom) since 1528.
- To the south of the Westenholz fracture surface is the watermill, first mentioned in a document in 1448 or 1475, where a baking day is held once a year.

Economy and Infrastructure
Westenholz is close to major traffic - 2 km from the Walsrode motorway triangle. The federal highways A 27 (Walsrode - Bremen ) and A 7 ( Hanover - Hamburg ) run 2 km to the west. The county road K 147 leads from the west timber directly to the "junction West Wood" (no. 49) A 7.
In Westenholz there are no street names, only house numbers , which residents, postmen, vendors and visitors have to use for orientation.
