Location of Nordkampen in Lower Saxony

Nordkampen is a district of the city of Walsrode in the Lower Saxony district of Heidekreis .

geography

Nordkampen is 10 km west of the core town of Walsrode. The Geestdorf is surrounded by small hills, fields, meadows, moor and forest.

Neighboring towns are - clockwise from the north - Hamwiede , Vethem , Südkampen , Stemmen and Neddenaverbergen .

The Lehrde running to the west forms the border river between the districts of Heidekreis and Verden . The Tharansgraben flows through Nordkampen.

history

The place was first mentioned together with Südkampen in 1255 in document no. 43 of the Walsroder monastery . A field or arable land (lat. Campus) led to the naming of these villages. The cardinal points north and south illustrate the topographical separation. There used to be the names "Swattencampen" for Nordkampen and "Wittencampen" for Südkampen.

At the border of the district of Verden there is a Snedenstein from the 16th century, a relic of a border ( Snede = cutting edge), which according to a forged document from 1147/1150 already existed at the time of Charlemagne . The name Camping already appears in this document, the original of which is in the Stade State Archives .

Since the regional reform , which came into effect on March 1, 1974, the previously independent municipality of Nordkampen has been one of 23 districts of Walsrode.

politics

Reiner Störk has been the mayor since November 1st, 2016.

Culture and sights

  • As a symbol of the village there is a wingless windmill in the direction of Vethem .
  • Several buildings, such as the Blankenhof Göpelschuppen , the Brandts manor house and the Weetmüllers Hofcafé are listed buildings.

Associations such as the Schützen-, Sport- and Dörpsverein as well as the volunteer fire brigade Nordkampen and tree planters enrich the cultural life. Festivities are Easter bonfires, street festivals, the shooting festival, picking up the Pentecost trees, the sports week, the harvest festival, the Nordkämper hobby mile and the lantern parade .

Economy and Infrastructure

Nordkampen is far away from major traffic. The federal highway 27 runs 3 km to the north. The Walsrode about Rethem by Nienburg leading national highway 209 runs south-west, 5 km away. A state road , the L 160, runs south 2 km from Verden to Kirchboitzen.

In Nordkampen there are no street names, only house numbers that residents, postmen, vendors and visitors have to use for orientation.

Nobleman named von Hodenberg and his sons Heinrich and Luthard transferred the bailiwick over two houses to Nordkampen (both in the parish of Kirchboitzen, Amts Rethem) to the Walsrode monastery for the upper ownership of a house at Südkampen, which Johann named Hernikere and Alard named Pose gave from them Had borne fiefs.
