Bommelsen has been part of the city of Walsrode in the Lower Saxony district of Heidekreis since January 1, 2020 . About 286 people live in the village on an area of 10 km².

Bommelsen is located in the northern part of the Walsroder urban area, a good 5 km from Bomlitz . The location extends for about 1.5 km mainly along the right side of the central Bomlitz valley . The dialect name of Bomlitz, Bommelse , gave the place its name.

history

Bommelsen was first mentioned in a document in 835 as Bamlinestade (for example: Ufer der Kleine Böhme ) belonging to the lands of the Corvey Monastery, then from 1120 as Bomlose and from 1390 as Bommelsen .

From March 1, 1974 to December 31, 2019, the previously independent municipality was one of eight localities in the Bomlitz municipality . On January 1, 2020, the entire Bomlitz community was incorporated into the city of Walsrode. This makes Bommelsen a district of the city of Walsrode.

Peace Church from the North

Several courtyards and hamlets lined up along the Bomlitz have been preserved as typical building ensembles, some including historical stairwells . The Friedenskirche from 1929/30, which was built on the initiative of the Bommelser and for a long time made Bommelsen a separate parish with a pastorate, is the landmark of the place . The Friedenskirche is known as a postcard motif and is often used as a wedding church. In the village community center, the former village school in Bommels, rooms are available for events as part of the association work and other cultural and social life.
