Vethem is a district of the town of Walsrode in the Lower Saxony district of Heidekreis . About 350 inhabitants live in the heath village on an area of ​​12.0 km².

geography

Vethem is located six kilometers west of the core town of Walsrode am Vethbach . With its districts of Helmsen, Blankemühlen, Maienbruch and Hegersberg, Vethem belongs to the Kirchboitzen parish . It is located away from the main roads in a quiet location on the edge of the "Vethbachtal" nature reserve. The surroundings are meadows and fields near the Vehmsmoor (area = 255 ha = 2.55 km²). Peat was cut in it for centuries . It has been under nature protection since 1990 .

Neighboring towns are (clockwise from the north) Fulde , Schneeheide , Kirchboitzen , Groß Eilstorf , Südkampen and Nordkampen .

history

Vethem was first mentioned in a document in 1261.

Since the regional reform , which came into force on March 1, 1974, the previously independent municipality of Vethem has been one of 23 localities in the city of Walsrode.

Culture and sights

  • In the nature reserve Vehmsmoor there is a birch and pine forest, as well as z. B. cottongrass, cranberry, heather, sundew, peat moss and pipe grass everywhere. Here the crane has returned to brood.

Economy and Infrastructure

Vethem is far from the main traffic. The federal motorway 27 runs three kilometers to the north. The Walsrode about Rethem to Nienburg / Weser leading national highway 209 runs west, three kilometers away.

In Vethem there are no street names, only house numbers , by which residents, postmen, suppliers and visitors have to orient themselves.
