Südkampen is a district of Walsrode in the Lower Saxony district of Heidekreis . Approx. 440 inhabitants live in the heath village on an area of ​​10.2 km².

Together with Nordkampen, Südkampen is the westernmost village in the city of Walsrode. It is located 11 km west of the core town of Walsrode.

Neighboring communities are - clockwise from the north - Nordkampen , Vethem , Kirchboitzen , Groß Eilstorf , Otersen, Wittlohe and Stemmen.

The Vethbach flows through the village .

history

The place was first mentioned together with Nordkampen in 1255 in document no. 43 of the Walsroder monastery . A field or arable land (lat. Campus) led to the naming of these villages. The cardinal points north and south illustrate the topographical separation. There used to be the names "Wittencampen" for Südkampen and "Swattencampen" for Nordkampen.

Since the regional reform, which came into force on March 1, 1974, the previously independent municipality of Südkampen has been one of 23 districts of Walsrode.

The civil engineering company Bartzbau GmbH is based in Südkampen. The animal testing laboratory Biomedvet Research GmbH is also located there.

Südkampen is far from the main traffic. The federal highway 27 runs 5 km to the north. The federal road 209 leading from Walsrode via Rethem to Nienburg / Weser runs west, 4 km away. The state road L 160 from Verden to Kirchboitzen runs through Südkampen.

In Südkampen there are no street names, only house numbers that residents, postmen, vendors and visitors have to use for orientation.
