Benzen is a district of Walsrode in the Heidekreis district , Lower Saxony .

geography

The village is located in the southwest of Lüneburg Heath, south of the main town of Walsrode. Here the Böhme emerges from its comparatively narrow valley through the clay geest of the Heidmark into the valley sand plains of the Aller - Urstromtal . Benzen is separated from nearby Walsrode by the Benzer Sunder forest . To the north-east of the village runs the federal highway 27 at a distance of one kilometer and the L 190 to the east , also one kilometer away; south-east of the Verden (Aller) –Walsrode Nord railway line .

In Benzen there are no street names, only house numbers that residents, postmen, suppliers and visitors have to use for orientation.

history

The place name probably comes from the old German word Bendessen, which means castle . It was first mentioned as such in 1241. However, barrows indicate a settlement from the Bronze Age. Nearby is a court stone at the site of a thing site where Holting was held on June 17, 1491 .

On March 1, 1974, Benzen was incorporated into the city of Walsrode.
