history

The first written mention of Dorfmark was around 968 (Thormarcon). In addition to Thormarcon, old names of the place are Dorpmarkete (1304-1324), dorpmarke (1330-1352), Dorpmarke (1360) and dorpmarke (1397). Dorfmark is a Low German name that contains "dorp" and "Mark", meaning "border, border area". This usually means the village corridor, i.e. the space that surrounds a village and belongs to the village.

In 1927 the place merged from the four districts Westendorf, Fischendorf, Dorfmark (district) and Winkelhausen. Dorfmark has belonged to Bad Fallingbostel as a district since the regional reform that came into force on March 1, 1974 . Before that, Dorfmark was self-employed.

Barrows from the Older Bronze Age are the most obvious evidence of early settlement. The “1000-year-old linden tree” is located near Brock between Dorfmark and Vierde. It was only discovered in 1972 as a result of hurricane damage. During the excavation work carried out in 1981, three body burials facing east-west and a halfway intact stone wreath were uncovered. The shadow of a child's corpse can be seen in the northern grave. A bronze needle and a small ceramic vessel were also found.

  • Evangelical St. Martin's Church
The history of the church in Dorfmark goes back to the time around the turn of the millennium with few documents. At that time there was probably “Up den Thy”, a wooden church on the court and thing square, which was replaced by a Gothic building in the 14th century. Today's church was built in 1708 on the foundation walls of this old church, which lay on a headland next to a trout stream protected on three sides by water and moor. The wooden bell tower with three bells (one of them from 1715, two steel bells from the period after the First World War) dates from the period after the Thirty Years' War. The equipment consists of a baptismal font from 1465 with the Low German inscription: "Keen Minsche here up Erden can be blissful without Döpe, de Döpe thus made it clear to Minschen that he goes up to Gode". The valuable Passion Altar from 1479 was redesigned and erected around 1870 by the Hanover consistorial architect Hase . The altar bible is from 1610, the altar candlestick from 1465 and the galleries with the pulpit are from the 19th century.
  • Wense Chapel
The former Gut Wense, to which a chapel belongs, is located between Dorfmark and Soltau. (This was the ancestral seat of the family of the same name for many centuries .) Friedrich Wilhelm von der Wense built a new stone chapel in place of the wooden chapel in 1672 after the estate burned down during the Thirty Years' War . The interior impresses with its magnificent wooden furnishings in pigeon blue - painted in the style of the late Renaissance. The panels on the richly decorated altar depict various biblical scenes. The epitaph on the richly decorated gallery above the entrance with a splendid late Renaissance frame reminds of the builder of the chapel and his family.
  • Marketplace
  • "Grefel Dojen" fountain on the market square
Dorothee Grünhagen, born in 1854, set up her farm in Obereinzingen in 1911. As this was near the Grefel (forest area), it was soon given the nickname "Grefel Dojen". Grefel Dojen remained unmarried and led a hermit life. It was said that she was dismissive of strangers, but once you had won her trust, she could tell with an unimaginable naturalness and freshness. Heavy men's boots were just as much a part of Grefel Dojen as the cigar or the shotgun for hunting. Her appearance was seen through and through as rough and honest. Grefel Dojen was relocated to Dorfmark in 1936. In 2001 a memorial for the primitive woman was erected on the market square of the village marker. It shows her with her favorite companions, a cat and a goat.
