The Marienbad trolleybus is the trolleybus system of the Czech spa town of Marienbad , in Czech Mariánské Lázně . It went into operation on April 27, 1952 and replaced the Marienbad tram that opened in 1902 . With four lines , 27 stops and nine cars, the transport company Městská doprava Mariánské Lázně sro , or MDML for short , now operates the smallest Czech trolleybus network. The company is also responsible for the three lines of local city bus transport.
Lines
The four lines connect the city center of Marienbad with the neighboring communities of Klimentov, Úšovice and Velká Hleďsebe . The Kaufland stop on lines 6 and 7 and the Třešňovka stop on line 7 can only be served by vehicles with auxiliary drives . The train station (Nádraží) can be reached via lines 5 and 7.

history
The first trolleybus line connected the train station with the city center. Unlike the earlier tram - which ended in the center - the trolleybuses circumnavigated the Kurpark by means of a large block loop in a clockwise direction, which improved the hotel service. On April 30, 1953, a nearly 300-meter-long branch route followed through the Třebízského road to the Waldquelle loop, or Lesní pramen in Czech. However, this was only used occasionally in the first few years. The new line to Úšovice, opened in 1960, eventually led to the establishment of a second line with the red color code. This connected the forest spring, which from then on was regularly served, with Úšovice. The depot that is still in use today went into operation there on January 7, 1962, and in 1973 the extension from the original Kovárna terminal to the current terminal at Antoníčkův pramen followed. Line numbers were also introduced, and three routes have now existed:
- 1: Goethovo náměstí – Nádraží
- 2: Lesní pramen – Úšovice, Antoníčkův pramen
- 3: Goethovo náměstí – Úšovice, Antoníčkův pramen
In 1980, the extension of line 1 from the train station (Nádraží in Czech) to Panská Pole went into operation, from then on lines 4 (from Lesní pramen) and 5 (from Goethovo náměstí) went there. Line 1, however, was closed. The last new line to Klimentov to date was opened on October 1, 1984 and has been served by Line 6 since then. In 1996 the MDML gave up the branch line to the forest spring, which resulted in the discontinuation of lines 2 and 4. The overhead line there was only dismantled in July 2012, however. The latest line, number 7, was finally introduced on February 26, 2007. However, due to the use of the auxiliary drive, no contact line adjustments were made. Initially, line 7 - also with the auxiliary unit - also served the Koliba stop, where the valley station of the Marienbad aerial cableway is located. There was also a temporary tangential line 9 with the color code purple, which connected Úšovice directly with the train station and the Panská Pole terminal.
Since the mid-1990s there has been discussion about discontinuing trolleybus operations. In 2013 it was agreed to reduce investments and to cease operations in 2017 and to replace them with battery buses or diesel buses.
In March 2016, it was decided again to modernize the trolleybus operation and maintain it in the long term. The reason is the mostly negative experience with battery buses in other cities; at the same time, electrical operation should not be dispensed with, since it is a health resort and therefore air pollution should be as low as possible.
