District Oberndorf

history

Oberndorf was first mentioned in 1423. The current form of the name already contains a document from 1549. The name is explained by the location of the village in Esselbach.

Before the regional reform in Bavaria , Oberndorf was an independent municipality.

In 1862 the district office Marktheidenfeld was formed, on whose administrative area Oberndorf was located. In 1939, as everywhere in the German Reich, the designation district was introduced. Oberndorf was now one of the 47 communities in the Marktheidenfeld district . When the district of Marktheidenfeld was dissolved in 1972, Oberndorf became part of the newly formed district of Main-Spessart .

On January 1, 2018, Oberndorf had a population of 883.

religion

Oberndorf is shaped by Catholicism. The branch (parish St. Margareta Esselbach) Herz Mariä Oberndorf (parish community Heilig Geist im Spessartgrund, Esselbach) belongs to the Lohr dean's office .
