history

The oldest historical witnesses in Oberpiebing are pottery shards, of which the oldest approx. 4000 years BC. Should have arisen. In addition to large and clumsy sherds, there are also fine ones, which are called Danube-country cord and ribbon ceramics because of their typical decoration and are much younger. They were made by a pre-Celtic tribe. This must have settled here, because there are many fireplaces. But it could also be the remains of cremations.

Row graves date from the early Bavarian period in the 6th century and were discovered in the 20th century when the Gierl barn was built near the Oberpiebinger cemetery. The grave goods were sparse, a sign that the residents here were already Christians at that time. Other such graves are likely to be located south of the barn in today's Schöfergarten.

Since around 1285 one can speak of a parish Oberpiebing. However, there was certainly a church in Oberpiebing before that. In 1464 Peter and Christoph were enfeoffed the Rainer von Rain by the Duke with the rectory in Piebing and the bailiwick there. Oberpiebing, known as Hofmark in 1558 and 1599 , remained in the possession of Rainer von Rain. In 1599 the Hofmark Oberpiebing belonged to the Salching sub-office of the Straubing Regional Court. 1618 Oberpiebing is mentioned as a "village".

The municipality of Biebing was formed in 1811 and the patrimonial municipality of Oberpiebing in 1821. With Kirchmatting she belonged to the Rain Patrimonial Court. At that time there was also a school in Oberpiebing. On August 1, 1920, the municipality of Riedling became part of the municipality of Oberpiebing. Thus came to the previous parts of the municipality Oberpiebing, Kirchmatting and Maierhof yet Anger , Außerhienthal , Matting , Niederpiebing , Pfaff Point and Riedling.

The municipality of Oberpiebing in the Straubing-Bogen district was dissolved on May 1, 1978 as part of the regional reform in Bavaria . The districts of Oberpiebing, Aufham, Ausserhienthal, Kirchmatting, Maierhof, Matting, Niederpiebing and Pfaffenpoint became part of the Salching community. Only Riedling came to the Oberschneiding community.

In 1987 the parish village of Oberpiebing had 457 inhabitants.
